The Route of the Abandoned: US-2 from St. Ignace to Blaney Park
Roadtrippin' in Michigan any time of year is an adventure, a treat, and a privilege...and the extra treat is when you come across some old abandoned businesses (and dwellings) that mark the past: things that once were.
A perfect place to find many of these is on US-2 along the shore of upper Lake Michigan in the Upper Peninsula.
Without further ado, the gallery below shows many of these places you can see right from the road as you're driving: abandoned stores, homes, and other businesses.
Some are just plain empty lots where something used to be...you can only imagine. Many motels went POOF over the decades, and a handful of the abandoned ones are seen here.
