Monday Morning, Sept. 30th, Verizon was alerted to a number of outages across the country, and their "Downdetector" was seeing more than 4,000 customers in the Chicago area alone without connection to their Verizon network.

That number spiraled, and as of about noon on Monday, that number of outages spiraled to six figures.

According to Verizon, approximately 105,000 customers in the Midwest were without connection to Verizon's network.

"We [were] aware of an issue impacting service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue."

By noon on Monday, a number of customers in the Chicago area had their service restored, but still, more than 100,000 customers - mostly in the areas of Chicago, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Omaha, Cincinnati, Denver, Seattle, and Columbus, were still dealing with the issue.

Dozens of comments included customers' phones displaying "SOS" mode, and switching back and forth from that and minimal service. Most customers were unable to send, or receive text messages, or make and receive phone calls.

As engineers were working to figure out what happened with Verizon, it was also reported that the outages grew beyond their own network, and according to one twitter user, customers with T-Mobile and AT&T were also dealing with outage issues.


Some engineers with the company took to twitter to clarify some of their process to bring the network back up.
