Michigan’s ‘Best Sandwich Shop’ is Meaty Goodness in Your Mouth

If you're a fan of massive amounts of meat in your mouth, then Michigan's best Sandwich Shop needs to be on your bucket list.

Delish recently put together their top Sandwich Shops in the country - one in each state - and Michigan's own Ernie's Market topped the list. It might also be the most Pure Michigan sandwich shop in the state.

This unassuming little corner sandwich shop and market in Oak Park seriously is what Michigan is all about.

Started in 1955, Ernie's Market was a full service neighborhood grocery store. Through the decades, its needs shifted away from full grocery, and focused more on being a meat market, beer and wine store, and then during a recession, Ernie helped feed the neighborhood with his "hefty sandwiches" filled with meats, cheeses, and lots of veggies.

What's even better is, it's affordable, and has been dubbed the "Happiest Sandwich Shop" by MLive.

And now, Ernie can add "Best Sandwich Shop" to his list of accolades as well.

If you look at the sandwiches Ernie's putting out, they look amazing, and I mean that in the most delicious way possible, because he's not presenting them "for the 'Gram."

These are piled high, messy, filling sandwiches on onion rolls and sliced bread. Of course, he uses only the best meats and cheese, but aside from that, simplicity seems to be the game... and height.

And Ernie's #PureMichigan as well, carrying copious amounts of Faygo and Better Made Chips in his store to go with your sandwiches.

No shade on the other delis and sandwich shops in Michigan, of course, but when you're pumping out mile-high meats like Ernie is, and delivering every one of them with a smile since the 1950s, then I'm pretty sure you deserve to be the Best Sandwich Shop in the game.
