Will It Be A Jinx? SI Picks The Lions To Win The Super Bowl

The venerable magazine, Sports Illustrated (SI), has picked the Detroit Lions to win the Super Bowl this season.

Never has there been more anticipation for an NFL season than the 2024 season for the Detroit Lions.

The Lions, as everyone knows, is coming off their best season in more than 30 years.  They won their first-ever NFC North division title and advanced to the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1991.

And with the Lions taking care of core players (financially this off-season) Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell, and Taylor Decker.  The talk is almost "Super Bowl or Bust" for your gridiron heroes.

But with SI jumping on board with that sentiment.  Should you, the Detroit Lions fan be worried that the longtime magazine is putting the famed "SI Jinx" on your beloved team?  Remember, they put former MSU Spartan Tony Mandarich on the cover before the 1989 NFL Draft.  And he was one of the biggest busts in NFL history.  That's just one example.

Maybe SI did, unintentionally.  As you might know, second-year running back Jahmyr Gibbs is hurt with a hamstring injury and the aforementioned Sewell left practice earlier this week with a foot injury.  Both are expected to play against the Los Angeles Rams in the regular-season opener on September 8th at Ford Field.

And other key guys are injured, too.  Defensive lineman D.J. Reader (a top free agent acquisition) won't play against the Rams.  And veteran backup D-Lineman John Comminsky is out for most of the season with an injury.  And All-Pro center Frank Ragnow has a toe injury that will bother him for the rest of his career.

Time will tell if the SI Jinx affects the Detroit Lions this season.  But as superstitious as I, and many of you reading this are.  I'd be a bit worried about the Honululu Blue & Silver this season.
