Few things are more relaxing than a night under the stars while camping with your favorite folks.

If you're into camping, then you probably have your favorite spot or spots to pitch a tent, camper, RV, whatever. We are blessed with wonderful state parks, campgrounds, lakes, and woods to camp in. But, have you thought about how we, Michigan, compare to the rest of the country? The answer is: pretty darn well. Michigan ranks number seven as the best state to camp in. And if that's not enough, Campspot just awarded Indian River RV Resort the top spot on their list of the 10 Best Campground in America!

The website Lawn Love went looking for 2023’s Best States for Camping in America and decided to rank them. They said that they compared the 50 states based on 25 metrics, such as campsite access, acreage, and trails. They also considered safety, supplies, camper satisfaction, and affordability.

Ranking number seven in the country isn't too shabby, especially when you are up against states like California, Washington, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Missouri, and the like. But with the Great Lakes, so many inland lakes, plentiful woods and state and national parks, not to mention lovely campgrounds, we pull a pretty good number.

Only California, Washington, Texas, Florida, New York, and Colorado rank higher than Michigan.

Lawn Love loved the fact that Michigan is a very safe state to camp in with camp grounds, parks, and areas accessed easily and well-maintained. They say our quality is very high and supplies are good, but could be better. Our affordability of camping is much higher on average than many other states, but our high quality usually makes up for it.

So, where are some of the hot spots, best spots, to camp in Michigan? Check it out!
