Michigan Man Suing Secretary of State Over GOBLUE License Plate
Michigan has some cool license plate options, my personal favorite is the Water-Winter-Wonderland plate.
Some people like to take their license plates to the next level and customize it.
One Michigan man is suing the Michigan Secretary of State after his vanity plate was given away to someone else.
Joseph Hardig III, a University of Michigan graduate and Detroit-area lawyer, has filed a lawsuit over the loss of his cherished "G0BLUE" car license plate.
The plate, a family heirloom and a symbol of his love for the university was unexpectedly assigned to another car owner when Hardig tried to renew it.
The new owner, Jonathan Fine, also a University of Michigan graduate, discovered the plate was available on a state website and decided to claim it, despite not being particularly excited about it.
Joseph Hardig visited a Secretary of State office on November 4, a month before the plate renewal deadline, and was informed that "G0BLUE" was no longer available for his Ford Edge.
The plate, which references the University of Michigan's color and the common salutation among Wolverine fans, has now been assigned to Jonathan Fine and his 2007 BMW.
Jonathan Fine has expressed understanding of Joseph Hardig's disappointment and said he might be willing to relinquish the plate if he can find another option.
In response to the situation, Joseph Hardig is asking a judge to prevent the state from transferring the plate to Fine.
The Secretary of State has declined to comment on the lawsuit.
