8 Local Businesses You Should Check Out During ‘Buy Michigan’ Week
On Monday July 31st, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a proclamation declaring this week (July 31 - August 6th) as Buy Michigan week.
The idea is to encourage Michiganders to try to buy things from some of our incredible local businesses here in the mitten state. And, we have quite a few of them.
In fact, over 150,000 Michigan residents applied to start a new business of their own in 2021, so local business is growing and thriving in our state. But, that will only stay true if we spend a little of our hard earned cash with our neighbors.
Here are some of the most unique and fun options for places to shop this week to support local businesses in Michigan.
1. Woosah
Looking for a unique gift for a wedding, birthday or maybe the holidays? Woosah has so many wild and weird things on their shelves, you'll find something for everyone on your list all in this one locally owned store. You can visit them in Grand Rapids and in Douglas, so skip the mall and the box stores, they'll be grateful.
2. Eastern Floral
Wanna treat someone you love with flowers this week? This Grand Rapids florist can craft something special just for them. While a lot of florists tend to be owned by franchises, these arrangements are made with love and care right here in West Michigan.
3. The Color Forest
We all love to have unique piece in our wardrobe, and The Color Forest has beautiful handmade jewelry and candles perfect for you. Their in person hours are a little limited, but you can shop their collection online and still be giving your money to a local business, which is pretty great.

6. Rare Munchiez
You may know them from tiktok, but this Detroit area based snack shop is Michigan owned and run. In fact, you can visit their store front and shop in person if you don't wanna buy your treats online.
7. Kalamazoo Candle Company
I am obsessed with these candles that you can find all over West Michigan and not just in Kalamazoo. They're made in their storefront in downtown Kalamazoo, and they also offer kits to allow you to make your own at home. Skip the store bought candles, and get one made with care by someone in our community.
