Ionia and Kent Counties were under tornado warnings yesterday, with winds around 20 miles an hour, and severe thunderstorms. Coverage like this is essential for saving lives and informing the public about potentially life-threatening storms. Given the number of tornadoes Michigan has experienced this year, storms like this are not meant to be taken lightly.

However, there is some irony in the timing of Fox 17's coverage of the storm. The UEFA European Football Championship, more commonly called the Euros, is one of soccer/futbol's most anticipated sports events. It pits many of Europe's best national teams against each other to determine which European team is the champion. It happens every four years, so the fanfare around the event is strong.

Two of the best European teams, Italy and Spain, are currently playing. However, Fox 17's broadcast of the game was interrupted to show coverage of the storm. Fans were not happy, taking to Facebook to express their grievances in the Facebook Live comments section

"Put the game back on!"

"we do not care, EUROS!"

"thanks for making us miss the first half."

"Put the game back on full screen!"

"Tornados happen everyday, the Eruos are only every 4 years. PUT THE GAME BACK ON!!!"

Not being able to watch something you've been looking forward to for so long is understandable, but multiple tornado warnings are in effect and lives are at risk. As a long-time soccer fan, I get it. But sometimes bigger things are happening than a sports event.
