Detroit's Eastern Market has been voted the No. 2 best public market in the country!
More than 130 years old, Detroit's Eastern Market has its roots in two historic markets: A farmers market that began in the 1840s in Cadillac Square and a a hay and wood market that stood on the current site.
Different markets with their own unique food, products, and experiences happen on different days.
On Saturdays, year round, 6a.m. to 4p.m., it's an experience that is undeniably Detroit. Over 225 market vendors share their produce and stories with up to 40,000 visitors in one day during their busy season.
Every Sunday, June through September, 10a.m. to 4p.m., you'll find a non-traditional farmers market that seeks to showcase the work of local artists, cooks, jewelers, musicians, and more.
Tuesday markets, June through September, 9a.m. to 3p.m. is great to stock up on fresh produce, baked goods, and meats. This market has special offerings including free Zumba and yoga classes.
There's a whole district surrounding the market that includes local shops, restaurants, breweries, and more too.
