A Flint bakery will be in the spotlight this week on the first episode of a new series on the Food Network.

The new show, titled Bake or Break, focuses on helping struggling businesses across the country and giving them a business make-over. Hosted by award-winning pastry chef Stephanie Boswell, along with her powerhouse team that includes HGTV designers Lauren Makk and Breegan Jane, the goal is to get customers flocking to these local businesses.

“Emotions run high as there is so much on the line both personally and professionally for the bakery owners. I see the potential in these struggling bakeries, and encouragement is the ingredient these owners need to believe in themselves so they can turn their businesses around. With hard work and some guidance, we freshen up their menus, add flavor, and fill counters with bounties of colorful baked goods to make each shop fun, vibrant, and inviting so customers pour in,” said Boswell.

Kicking off the series will be Flint bakery The Cookie Jar owned by Teressa Morris. The Cookie Jar is located on Flint’s southside between Oakley and Atherton roads on S. Saginaw Street, is known around town for her "Million Dollar Cookie". Like many small businesses,  the pandemic hit hard and having just one signature item just isn't enough. Boswell steps in to help Morris move towards making The Cookie Jar a household name.

Although the show is making its premiere this week on Food Network, filming took place back in October of last year. While in town, Boswell found herself enjoying another local favorite spot, Blondie's Food & Spirits. Boswell was so impressed not only with Blondie's food but the owners Lisa Kunkleman-Blondell and Kara Kunkleman that they ended up as consultants for the episode.
