The fire began around 5:30 a.m. in the kitchen of Flap Jack Shack. It was first discovered by the breakfast restaurant’s staff who were coming in to open for the day. Flap Jack Shack staff called 911, and the Lansing Fire Department quickly responded to the scene.

How the Fire Started and Spread

The fire started in the kitchen and traveled through the exhaust system to the roof. Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly, but not before it spread to the neighboring Jersey Giant location.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the fire.

What We Know About Closures and Next Steps

Flap Jack Shack will be closed for an extended period of time, as the cause of the fire is still under investigation. A notice posted on the door Monday (April 20) states that the building has been temporarily condemned, meaning no one is allowed to enter.
