“Donuts and 5Ks: Another Lansing Race Adventure”
MY 5K MICHIGAN EXPERIENCES
I’m only visiting Lansing for six weeks, and yet I’ve signed up to walk three 5K races. In case you were wondering, that’s three times more than I've signed up for this year back home in Virginia.
Two of them have been for organizations that are near and dear to my family and me. One of them... had donuts.

The Do Not Stop Half Marathon/10K/5K started at Adado Riverfront Park. It was part of the Lansing River Trail I hadn’t seen yet, so that's another section of the 20 miles worth of trail marked off the to-do list. There were almost 300 participants and about as many donuts.

FEELING LIKE HOMER SIMPSON
This race was different from most I’ve participated in—the treats came in the middle of it. I signed up for the “Bakers Dozen Challenge.” This meant I had to try to snarf (look it up, it’s a word, I promise) down a dozen donut holes in as little time as possible, because it counted against my race time. I didn’t know that they were going to be cake-style donut holes. I wasn’t prepared for how dense they were. I’m still having trouble with my braces, so only got through three. I wanted to eat more, but I didn’t want to break the wire on my braces...AGAIN.

I did beat my goal of finishing in less than an hour—even with the donut snack in the middle of the race. I was also amazed at how much the landscape around the River Trail had greened up and bloomed in just a week. If I had I stopped as often as I wanted to take pictures, I probably wouldn’t have met that goal.
ONE MORE TO GO
Thanks to Bodies Racing Company for organizing a great race. Congratulations to all the participants. Donut eating challenges and photo ops aside, it was another great day to discover what Lansing, Michigan has to offer.
