Did You Know Lansing Once Had A Sugar Beet Factory?
It's not something you would, unfortunately, see here in the city of Lansing now, but it is still definitely a piece of history in a time when Michigan led the way in local production.
The City Of Lansing Was Once Home To A Sugar Beet Factory
You definitely won't have any luck if you're out looking for a sugar beet factory here in Michigan, as only one remains here in Michigan, and it is one of the largest here in the United States.
Back in the early 1900s here in the city of Lansing, the Michigan Sugar company added a location in the city of Lansing.
Another location also opened up in the city of Saginaw as well.
Michigan's Current Sugar Beet Industry Employees Nearly 1,000 People
While there may be the only one sugar beet factory left here in the state of Michigan, you would be surprised to know that they have a good 900+ employees around the year, and over 1,000 when it comes to seasonal employment.
The attached photos above are vintage postcards that came out of the city of Lansing, showing off a now forgotten part of Lansing's history, but still a very relevant company here in the state.
