Need a vacation? In January 2020, Viking announced plans to bring a fleet of luxury cruise ships to the Great Lakes. They're still on schedule for a 2022 launch.

It seems 2020 disrupted everything, but Viking is still on track to sail not just the seven seas, but the freshwaters of the Great Lakes. Two new ships, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris will pioneer new routes with a Great Lakes cruise and Antarctica cruise booking now for approximately $6,000-$9,000 per guest.

The Milwaukee to Thunder Bay trip covers two countries over eight days. The vessel will depart from Milwaukee and sail to Mackinac Island for a day of exploration. More island-hopping follows in Georgian Bay, Canada. It's 30,000 islands comprise the largest freshwater archipelago in the world. A trip- through the Soo Locks allows passage between Lake Huron and Lake Superior on the way to Ontario. Thunder Bay is the final destination, where the forests and wildlife await. The "Undiscovered Great Lakes" cruise is the route in reverse, with day-trips to Wisconsin's Apostle Islands and a stop in Houghton. A special promotion offers a free return flight if you book before the end of January 2021.The Niagara & the Great Lakes expedition sails from Toronto to Milwaukee and the Canadian discovery vacation is an extended thirteen day trip from New York City to Toronto.

So, if you've always dreamed of a cruise ship vacation but for some reason are not a fan of the tropics, this is the vacation of a lifetime for you. Best of all, it seems the long-range planning is still on schedule to launch ships in May of 2022. Start saving those coins.
