Claims For Michigan Unemployment Down Since Before Pandemic

I like so many, was laid off from my radio job in Detroit on April 2nd, last year because of Covid19. Filing for unemployment gave me a sad feeling.  I had to file so few times in my life.  It was a bit unsettling knowing that with the pandemic it is really gonna be tough to find another job soon.  I was fortunate enough to find one here at Townsquare media 5 months later with WITL.

Here is some good news from the state of Michigan 9and10news.com, The US Department of Labor says the number of unemployment claims has dropped to pre-pandemic numbers. This is a great sign that the economy is on it's way to recovery.

Check this out, last  week Michigan had just over 10,000 unemployment claims filed, and it has not been this low since before COVID19 started.  Last year at this time we had over 400,000 people applying for benefit's.

Most people have been called back if they were laid off from the pandemic, said Shelly Keene, executive director of Michigan Works West Central. There are limits to the weeks that you can claim unemployment,” said Keene, “I believe since many people started almost a year ago, that they exhausted their benefits.

This is amazing news, and a great sign for the state of Michigan, and everywhere across the country.  We have been reporting in the past weeks about many job openings in our state, with companies like Amazon, the State of Michigan, and many other big companies.  Cheers to good things being on the way for all of us.
