Terrell Owens, Jose Canseco Among Pro Athletes Coming to Lansing
NFL great Terrell Owens, former MLB batting champ Jose Canseco and several other professional athletes are among the big names coming to Lansing for "The Battle Downtown Celebrity Softball Game" on Friday, June 23, 2023.
The game will take place at Jackson Field, home of the Lansing Lugnuts.
Who's Playing in This Year's Celebrity Softball Game in Lansing?
As with most things, the celebrity lineup is subject to change - but here's who's booked:
Terrell Owens
NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens, nicknamed "T.O.", played wide receiver for a total of 15 seasons in the National Football League - 8 seasons for the San Francisco 49ers, 2 for the Philadelphia Eagles, 3 for the Dallas Cowboys, 1 for the Buffalo Bills, and 1 for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Jose Canseco
Jose Canseco played in baseball's major leagues from 1985 to 2001. According to Wikipedia, "during his time with the Oakland Athletics, he established himself as one of the premier power hitters in the game. He won the Rookie of the Year (1986), and Most Valuable Player award (1988), and was a six-time All-Star. Canseco is a two-time World Series champion with the Oakland A's (1989) and the New York Yankees (2000)."
Malcolm Rodriguez
Malcolm Rodriguez is currently a linebacker for the NFL's Detroit Lions. In his rookie season last year, Rodriguez was responsible for 62 tackles and another 25 assists.
Andy Dirks
Andy Dirks played all three outfield positions for the MLB's Detroit Tigers during his tenure with the team from 2011 to 2014.
Darren McCarty
4-time Stanley Cup champ Darren McCarty played most of his professional career for the NHL's Detroit Red Wings.
Eddie Murray
Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Eddie Murray played first base and designated hitter in the majors from 1977 to 1997 - most of those seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.
Lomas Brown
Lomas Brown spent 18 seasons in the NFL as an offensive tackle. The 7-time Pro Bowler played for the Detroit Lions for 11 of those seasons, followed by stints with the Arizona Cardinals, the Cleveland Browns, the New York Giants, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Damian Gregory
Damian Gregory graduated Lansing's Sexton High School before playing football for Indiana University, then heading to the NFL as a nose guard and defensive tackle. He played for the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before ultimately retiring as a member of the Detroit Lions.
Sadie Bass
And now for someone completely different! Bath native Sadie Bass lives in Nashville these days, working on her burgeoning country music career. She appeared on NBC's "The Voice" in 2022, and made it through several episodes as a member of Team Gwen (Stefani).
How Do I Get Tickets for This Year's Celebrity Softball Game in Lansing?
Tickets for the home run derby game can be purchased for $15 each. Family 4-packs are available for $40. Tickets may be purchased online here (select June 23 - The Battle Downtown Celebrity Softball Game), or in person at the Jackson Field box office.
Celebrities will be available for autographs (for an additional fee) from 4pm to 6pm.
The home run derby is slated to begin at 6pm, with the game at 7:05pm. A light show is planned after the game.
This year's game is co-presented by Down The Line Sports and Prototype 81.
