While we were all staying home, and staying safe this year we rediscovered the joy of board games.

During the extended time at home we have all reached the ends of the internet and resorted back to gathering around a board game. I personally love it because it takes me back to my childhood. I distinctly remember having at least one game night a week where we would get together and argue about which game to play . . . which would lead to an argument during the game we played.

During the pandemic, the board game industry has been booming. The debut of the Netflix show 'The Queen's Gambit' also helped people rediscover the finer points of Chess. When it comes to the board games we are playing though, each state is a little different. The board games that are booming in Michigan are a mix between the traditional games we grew up with, and some new games that have popped up recently.

You can see the complete list here, but the top three are Connect 4, Sorry, and Monopoly. Games like Codename, Catan, and Guess who are also big in Michigan.

I am more of a traditional guy when it comes to game night. My first choice is always Farkle, but I am the only one in my family who likes it, so we rarely play. We have been introducing new games into the mx though, and I highly reccomend a game called Chickapig if you have kids in the right age range.

What is your go to game for game night?
