Are Hidden Nanny Cams Legal in Michigan?

Yes! It is legal to install hidden nanny cams in all 50 states without needing consent to videotape the nanny.

Michigan Penal Code 750.539d says that you can:

"Install, place, or use [nanny cam] in any private place, without the consent of the person or persons entitled to privacy in that place, any device for observing, recording, transmitting, photographing or eavesdropping upon the sounds or events in that place."

Now, before you go and install your new nanny cam, there are 13 states that do not allow you to put the cameras in any private areas.

What is considered a private place?

According to The Reeves Law Group,

"A private place is one where a person may reasonably expect to be safe from unauthorized surveillance. This means you can't record in clearly private areas of your home, such as the bathroom or a live-in nanny's bedroom."

So before installing a nanny cam, ensure you are not placing it in any private areas.

Things That FEEL Illegal in Michigan That Aren't

No, none of these are against actual Michigan laws...They just feel like they are part of some "Michigander Honor Code" and should still not be violated.
