Life happens.

Michigan (and the whole country, really) is filled with people who started college, but for some reason or another, never finished. Maybe it was a money thing. Maybe it was a maturity thing. Maybe it was a "I have to provide for my family right now; I'll come back later" thing.

What's the Michigan Reconnect Scholarship?

Basically, Michigan Reconnect is a program that allows adults 25 and older who have never been awarded a college degree the chance to go back and get one tuition-free.

Sounds great, right? But what's the catch?

How Does Michigan Reconnect Work?

No, this isn't your chance to get a free education at Michigan State as an adult. But it's still pretty awesome.

The offer of free tuition is available at in-district community colleges all around Michigan. For instance, if you live in or around Lansing (and are otherwise qualified), you could get your associate's degree at Lansing Community College without paying a dime in tuition. There are literally dozens of associate's degrees available at LCC, including degrees in accounting, nursing, legal studies, criminal justice and so much more. View a full list of programs here.

Students attending community college through Michigan Reconnect are required to attend classes at least half-time until they earn their degree.

You have to have lived in Michigan for a year or more. You at least need to already have your high school diploma or GED. Learn more about Michigan Reconnect requirements here.
