I don't know about you, but I am not able to function without the help of coffee. The first thing I do in the morning is put on a pot of coffee -- and God help the person who tries to speak to me before I've had my first cup of joe. If I need a pick-me-up in the middle of the day; coffee. I think you get the picture... lol

Sometimes though, a caffeine fix may need more than just the regular old brew you have at home. And that's where a coffee shop comes in. They've got all kinds of brews, from hot to cold, flavored to plain, lattes to cappuccinos, and everything in between. Plus, patronizing a local business is great for the community! If your caffeine fix requires you to go outside your home coffee pot, here are four local Lansing coffee shops you can get your java at.

    Strange Matter Coffee Co.

Strange Matter Coffee Co. has two locations in Lansing; one on the Eastside and one Downtown. They offer your typical coffee shops choices; lattes, cappuccinos, and cold brews. But they also have lesser found drinks, like pour overs from a variety of roasters, as well as nitro brews. Plus, the Eastside location offers baked goods like scones, muffins, and donuts (which also come in vegan and gluten-free options).

    Blue Owl Coffee

Blue Owl Coffee in REO Town is kind of reminiscent of those old school coffee shops, but with a twist. They can take care of your caffeine needs with your basic hot and iced coffees, but they also offer nitro brews and coffee shakes. And what really lends itself towards the old school coffee shop vibes are their open mic and live music nights. Can you say "Smelly Cat"?

    The Crafted Bean

The Crafted Bean in Lansing offers up a variety of black coffees, but what's really unique about TBC is that they offer "coffee cocktails". No, there's no booze in them. It's coffee blended with different ingredients like lavender, mint, or chocolate. They also have a slew of bubble waffles with different toppings. If you like the mix of salty and sweet, you might try the "Bacon Meets Pebbles"; a bubble waffle covered with cream cheese, strawberry jam, bacon, and Fruity Pebbles. You can also get coffee at their other location in DeWitt.

    The Urban Cup

The Urban Cup is the latest coffee shop to join the Lansing ranks. It's over on Grand River in front of M 43 Fitness. Since it's pretty new to the game, right now they offer coffee, tea, soups, and sweet treats, but there are plans to expand the menu in the future.
