Almost three years ago, I wrote here about the book called “Yooper Bars: Visit the Finest Bars in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula”. The book had been written a couple of years before, by Randy and Kevin Kluck, a father and son team who visited almost every bar in the Upper Peninsula. They wrote the book and then Randy died in 2013, while his son Kevin went on with his life down here in the lower peninsula. But a couple of newspapers and TV stations picked up in the story and gave it a little publicity. When I ran across the story, it was because the New York Times had run a story about Kevin and the book. John Carlisle of The Detroit Free Press (via the Lansing State Journal) updated the story yesterday. Seems the book has become something of a cult hit.

John's article is a bit long, but worth the read. If you've ever been to the U.P., you'll recognize some of the towns and maybe some of the crazy bars. And I'm not telling you what to do, but if you have a dad who likes a few beers and the U.P. - I bet Amazon could get it to him before Sunday. Here's the link to the the book.

I don't own a copy. Yet. Kids? Are you out there? Tap, tap.
