According to an article from Mother Nature Network, new research from South Korea shows that "milk from cows milked at night, known as night milk, has 'exceptionally rich amounts of tryptophan and melatonin'. Tryptophan is a natural amino acid that cause drowsiness. This study suggests that "night milk" may be just the thing for a stressed out America.

No tests have been run on humans yet, but scientists gave "night milk" to mice and put them on rotating cylinders to exercise. The researchers reported that, after being given night milk, "the mice became drowsier and fell off the cylinder more than mice who had been given day milk, water or diazepam (the generic name for Valium)". According to the article, one German company has been selling "night milk" for years as a sleep aid.

So, if you're a Mid-Michigan dairy farmer, this changes everything. Or, maybe not. (What time would you have to milk the cows for it to be "night milk"?)
