Just before 10AM, Thursday morning, the town of Howard City, Michigan (north of Grand Rapids on US 131) was shaken by a loud "boom". Several residents heard it AND felt it.

But, what was "it"?

According to the Detroit Free Press, officials say there was no earthquake reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. There are no military bases in Michigan with aircraft based there capable of supersonic flight, so the chances are slim that it was a sonic boom. And, even if fighter or experimental aircraft from another state were flying over, there would be big trouble for breaking the sound barrier over a populated area.

Unless....aliens. No, you're right - I promised no alien theories.

My real theory? A "frost quake". Toronto, Canada (not THAT far away) is currently under a frost quake alert. Read more about that here.
