Scientists are at a loss to explain the plumes rising from the surface of Mars. According to Time Magazine online, these plumes have been seen over the last several years. They're not ice crystals or dust. What are they?

I'm not saying it's aliens, but.....plumes from explosions on Mars are how the Martian invaders are first noticed in the book, "The War of the Worlds" from H.G. Wells.
