Michigan author Jim Harrison passed away in March of last year. He was born in Grayling, went to high school in Haslett, went to State and then took on the world. Over the years he wrote novels, movies, poetry and essays about the outdoors and food. And he hung out with some fun people along the way. When he passed away, none other than his friend Jimmy Buffet took to Facebook to tell stories about road trips he took with Harrison.

If you live in Michigan, you should at least have a passing knowledge about him.

Here's your chance to find out more. According to MLive.com, this weekend in Traverse City, "Jim Harrison -- A Really Big Tribute", will be presented at the City Opera House.

BTW - his cabin near Grand Marais in the U.P. is still up for sale. I was up in Grand Marais last month and spent some time looking for it. Never did. I think it's down some unmarked two-track.
