This morning (Thursday) on "Stump the Chumps" we were asked, "what is the national sport of Canada?"

There are actually TWO answers to this question. The national WINTER sport of Canada is hockey.

The national SUMMER sport of Canada is lacrosse. Lacrosse is a game that developed out of an old Iroquois game called "baggataway". Baggataway was a violent game played as a way to prepare Iroquois warriors for battle. It was sometimes played as a way to settle disputes between tribes, The games would sometimes last from sun-up to sundown. And sometimes a THOUSAND players would be on the playing field at the same time, and the goals could be MILES apart. So, it really was a dress rehearsal for battle. And, it was tradition for every player to bet something on the game. The wager could be a knife or maybe a horse. And it wasn't unusual to bet wives and children. The wagers would be split up after every quarter of play.

Imagine the video below with 100 times the players. And everybody's wives and kids on the line. That was baggataway.
