With all the people who enjoy kayaking around the Lansing area, you would've thought somebody would have organized a kayak race at some point. You would've been wrong.

Here's the good news - according to the Lansing State Journal, Lansing's first kayak race, the "Red Paddle", will be held on Saturday, May 16th. The race will start at 9AM on the Red Cedar near the corner of Kalamazoo and Clippert St. It will start there and end on the Grand River at the Lansing City Market downtown.

There's a 100 person limit, and the entry fee will be $40, or $50 if you need to rent a kayak (with rental kayaks limited to 40 people).

The race proceeds will benefit the non-profit Friends of the Lansing River Trail group.
