The Soo Locks have opened for the season. That's an important fact, because it means the ice is clearing on the Great Lakes. Soon, the ice will be gone - replaced by fishing boats, sailboats, jet-skis, canoes and my pale legs.

According to MLive.com, after being shut down this winter for a couple of million dollars worth of repairs on the Poe Lock, the locks opened yesterday as The American Century, a thousand foot long freighter, became the first one through the locks this season. Apparently that gets you and your crew an official proclamation and gifts from local officials. Cool.
