According to Mlive.com, parents from the East Grand Rapids school district held a garage sale on Monday that raised $20,000 in one day. The school district faces $778,000 in budget cuts and funds raised from the sale will be used to help narrow that budget gap. All the items for sale were donated and nothing had a price tag so customers paid what they felt was appropriate.

Parents who organized the event are worried about some classes being cut at the school including elementary school foreign language, gym and elementary art. The other proposed cuts which include some teacher and staff layoffs will be voted on later this month. For more on the garage sale and to see photos of the event, click here.
