Scam Alert In Ingham County
Ingham County Sheriff officials are warning residents in Ingham County to be aware of a recent phone scam. Officials say that callers with heavy foreign accents, possibly middle-eastern, will say they are from Microsoft and that something is wrong with your computer or that you have pornographic images that need to be cleaned. The callers will then direct you to a website and will ask you to download from that site and give them a code. Once that happens the scammer is then able to take over the victim's computer. The phone scammer then asks for money in order to "fix" your computer. Some victims have had their computer rendered inoperable when downloading from these sites.
