Robin Williams has died. The iconic actor and comedian was found in his California home on Monday (Aug. 11), his cause of death an apparent suicide, as confirmed by the Marin County Sheriff’s department.

ScreenCrush reports that the actor, 63, passed of asphyxia. He had a troubling history of drug abuse and was struggling with depression at the time of his death, though he'd entered a 12-step program to battle his addictions at the beginning of July. A comprehensive investigation will be performed before an official cause of death is revealed.

It goes without saying that the news of the actor's death shakes not only the acting community, but the world. Williams starred in a long list of films like 'Mrs. Doubtfire,' 'Good Will Hunting,' 'The Birdcage,' 'Patch Adams,' 'Jumanji' and 'One Hour Photo,' among dozens of others. Country stars took to their Twitter accounts to share their reactions upon learning of the tragedy.
