The Maitland family, from the Rives Junction area, are determined to visit all 59 national parks and 417 national park sites. So far they've visited half of the national parks and most of the national park sites.

According to MLive.com, this all started when they watched Ken Burns' documentary "The National Parks: America's Best Ideas". According to Cheri Maitland, she watched it, was overcome with how beautiful it had been and turned to her husband, Jim, and said, "We're going to all the national parks." As a husband, I know there's nothing you can do at that point but start packing.

So, they started on this adventure in 2010. They're not rich, but they and their sons have seen a lot in the last seven years..
