I've heard a lot of people rave about the Cops and Doughnuts shops. I haven't been to any of them yet, but people LOVE this place. (What should I get when I go?)

Today, the Cops and Doughnuts empire expands to Mt. Pleasant. It's located in the old Goodwill building on Mission and Preston streets. And while it's open, this isn't the OFFICIAL grand opening. That will happen sometime in August. This will be the fifth store in Michigan, with another location in South Bend

According to MLive.com, the first Cops and Doughnuts opened eight years ago in Clare, when the nine Clare police officers decided to take over and save the Clare City Bakery, which was about to close. They renamed it Cops and Doughnuts and the rest is history. They got a lot of press because of the name and the doughnuts must have lived up to the hype, because they TRIPLED the bakery's annual income in the first six months.

What's next for Cops and Doughnuts? Apparently the plan is to now franchise the business throughout the U.S. and Canada. And all it took was nine cops with a good idea trying to help out their small town.
