Got a call from my daughter this afternoon at Michigan State - "Hey, Dad? If you hear about us being locked down, don't worry - it was an ROTC guy with a practice gun".

About 1PM somebody reported a man with a gun at Bessey Hall, so the MSU police sent out a text alert for everybody to "shelter in place". Ten minutes later the police found out it was just an ROTC member with a "training weapon". Caused a brief panic, and I guess some classrooms were locked down for about 30 minutes. Here's the story from our friends at mlive.com.

According to my daughter, "I had class in that area about that time, but I didn't go. It wasn't worth getting killed over."

I had a lot of good excuses for not going to class in my day, but I can't beat that one.
