Four more Michigan lighthouses are up for auction. According to the Lansing State Journal, the Government Services Administration (not the State of Michigan) is conducting the sale, with opening bids of $10,000 to $15,000.

One of the lighthouses being auctioned off is the White Shoal Light, located 20 miles west of the Mackinac Bridge. If it looks familiar, that's because it's the model for the red and white lighthouse on the Michigan "Save Our Lights" license plate.

In the article, the people who are restoring the Port Austin Reef Light, off the tip of the Thumb, discuss problems you may run into with your hundred year old lighthouse. Like removing pigeon poop. Lots of it. But, as I always say - If you want to be a shining beacon in life - you have to shovel some pigeon poop.

Or something like that. Here's the story.
