Captain Greg Fenton, Grand Ledge High School Class of '82 and Commanding Officer of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS George Washington, is about to turn over command on January 30th. He's been the CO since August of 2012.

The photo to the left is Capt. Fenton's last landing on the deck of the George Washington in an F-18 Super Hornet from Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-27. Capt. Fenton is a graduate of the Naval Academy and the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School.

Where is Capt. Fenton headed next? If you're reading this Capt. Fenton, email me and fill us in. And, I'm going to need one of those VFA-27 hats or patches, too.

Also working on board the George Washington was Destroyer Squadron 15 Commodore, Capt. Shan Byrne, who worked as the Sea Combat Commander of the surface ships assigned to the George Washington Strike Group. According to a press release from the Navy, Capt. Byrne also lived in Grand Ledge, before he moved at the age of 14.

Small world, huh? Good luck in the future to both Capt. Fenton and Capt. Byrne - and thanks for your service.
