Congratulations, Oregon. It's nice to have you in the kingdom of the dime.

Since 1971, Oregonians (?) have been getting 5 cents for recycling bottles and cans. According to USA Today, on Saturday, the new law boosting the payout to 10 cents took effect. Now, only Oregon and Michigan give their residents 10 cents per can or bottle. The difference between Michigan and Oregon recycling law (and it's turned into an issue in Oregon) is - in Michigan 75% of money from unclaimed recycling goes to the state - in Oregon the recycling site gets to keep it.

Everybody in Oregon knew this change was coming and they've been stockpiling cans and bottles for months. So, as you can imagine, this week would not be the time to do any recycling in Oregon - 'cuz those places are packed.
