If you're thinking about downsizing your farm - or, you've always wanted to be a farmer and don't have the acreage yet, here's an idea - start a "freight container farm".

I'm not making this up. According to CNN Money, people are now SUCCESSFULLY farming out of freight containers, usually used to truck products that need to be kept refrigerated. The light comes from LED lighting, the soil's been replaced with peat moss and liquid nutrients and the weather is always perfect.

The example given in the article is from a former tech company owner, whose "farm" is five freight containers in a vacant lot, near the Logan Airport in Boston. He's grossing about $15,000 a month and breaking even, but, after being in farming for about three years, expects to start turning a profit soon. Which I'd say is pretty good for any farm.

Of course, the deer hunting on your "farm" will suck, but....
