According to a report by Mlive.com, vaccination rates for children in Michigan are starting to edge a little higher. In the latest numbers released, 92% of Michigan kindergartners were fully vaccinated in the fall of 2014 compared with 91.9% in the fall 2013. However, officials say the statewide numbers are still considered "provisional" because a few schools have not yet submitted a report.

State officials have expressed concern about Michigan's vaccine waiver rate for school children whose parents opted them out of immunizations for highly contagious diseases such as measles and whooping cough. The state says about 5.2 percent of Michigan's kindergartners had vaccination waivers in the fall of 2014 compared with 5.8 percent in fall 2013.
