Since 1925, MSU has had a women only study lounge. Right there in the student union. Back then the idea was to keep creepy guys with fedora hats, pinstripe suits and bow ties away from the ladies while they quietly studied. In the last several years - same idea. (Pro tip: dressing like Pee-Wee Herman is not going to wow the ladies these days)

I've never been in there, but because it was so quiet, my wife was a big fan while she went to MSU. And, my youngest daughter, who's a senior there now, ducked in there a couple of times. Now - according to MLive.com, the university is getting rid of the women's lounge, to "ensure that university facilities and programs are in compliance with Title IX, the federal civil rights law that bans sex discrimination in programs that receive federal funding". It will be replaced by a gender neutral space. There's a petition going around to save the lounge, but it looks like it's too late.

This all happened because somebody had a problem with the fact that there was a women's lounge and not a men's lounge.

Geez - let them keep the women's lounge. I've been in the freshmen dorms. There is no shortage of "men's lounges". But they're not quiet.
