One of the movies opening nationwide this weekend is "Vacation" - a sorta sequel to the movie Chevy Chase starred in, way back in 1983.

But, did you know.....

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the idea for the original "Vacation" movie came from a short story John Hughes wrote for National Lampoon magazine in 1979, titled "Vacation '58". John (who was born in Lansing and then moved with his family to Grosse Pointe) wrote the piece during a blizzard in Chicago that had him snowed in. John would go on to write and/or direct some of the greatest movies of the 80s, like "Breakfast Club", "Pretty in Pink", and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". But "Vacation '58" started it all, with a story about Clark Griswold and his family, from Grosse Pointe, who took a road trip to Disneyland, sang the Michigan State fight song along the way and ended the trip by shooting Walt Disney in the leg.

Yeah, I guess they didn't want that part in the movie.
