According to the Detroit Free Press, bake sales could be coming back to a Michigan school near you. If you recall, a federal rule (promoted by Michelle Obama) to help promote healthier eating was put into effect for the current school year. That rule banned selling anything as a 'snack' that wasn't considered healthy. That meant no more cupcakes, cookies or brownies could be sold at the school for their bake sale. Well, back in March things started to shift away from the 'healthy' snacks. Legislation was introduced in the House and Senate that would give Michigan school officials flexibility to raise money at least three times a week by selling those 'sugary' snacks that were once banned under the federal guidelines.

That was in March. Now in May, it appears that the cookies could be coming back soon.  Under a bill approved by the House on Wednesday, brownies, doughnuts and other sweets could be part of school bake sales again. The bill was approved 66-43 in the House on Wednesday. If the Senate concurs in the House changes, the bill will go to Governor Rick Snyder for his signature.
