Michigan Lawmakers Could Repeal Crazy Laws
There are more than 75 laws that may soon be repealed by lawmakers in Michigan. On Wednesday, the House began voting to repeal some of these strange laws that legislators say no longer serve a purpose. Here are some of the crazy laws from Michigan Capitol Confidential, that you might not have known about:
- You may not mock a person for refusing to accept an invitation for a duel
- Cussing in front of a woman or a child is illegal
- It is against Michigan state law to tie a crocodile to a fire hydrant.
- In Michigan, a woman’s hair belongs to her husband. (Umm...excuse me?)
- It prevents the “Star Spangled Banner” from being “played, sung or otherwise rendered … except as an entire and separate composition or number and without embellishments … nor be played as a part or selection of a medley of any kind … nor be played for dancing or as an exit march.” (What does that even mean?)
- It is illegal to steal vegetables from a someone's garden. (I think that one actually makes sense.)
