According to the Lansing State Journal, Mackinac Island will be open for tourist business next Thursday. As of yesterday (Wednesday), there were ten foot snowbanks on the island and three feet of ice, on Lake Huron, between Mackinac Island and St.Ignace. So the ferries, which usually start running by April 21st, are not running at all. Right now, small planes are moving supplies and people over to the island. But the Grand Hotel itself uses 5,000 pounds of food every day - so you do the math.

The good news: the Coast Guard is breaking up the ice today and the hotels PLAN to open up on schedule next week. Somehow.
