Starting in two years, on October 1, 2020, if you plan to board a plane or walk into a federal building, you'll need either a U.S. passport or a new type of Michigan driver's license called a REAL ID-compliant license. And according to MLive.com, to get one, you'll need to show the secretary of state's office a certified copy of your birth certificate. Not that tenth generation xerox copy you show everybody.

So, start looking through that shoebox.

Or, you can just avoid airports and federal buildings.
