Earlier this week, Kroger made the announcement that they are planning on hiring around 11,000 new employees to help with the ongoing competition from other retailers like Walmart and Amazon. Along with the increase in the number of employees, according to a report by the USA Today, the company also plans to increase wages.

In some areas of the country, Kroger's base hourly wages will be $10 and will increase to $11 after an employee has been on the job for a year. Kroger operates more than 2,700 groceries in 35 states under a variety of names, including Smith's, Fred Meyer, Ralphs and King Soopers.
