Former Spartan and Detroit Tiger Kirk Gibson (and World Series hero for the L.A. Dodgers) will be the honorary captain for the MSU - Notre Dame game Saturday night. In addition, according to the Lansing State Journal, that night, Gibson's name and number will be added to the Spartan Stadium Ring of Honor.

People sometimes forget about Gibson's days playing for the Spartans football team as a wide receiver in the 70s, but he was an All-American who could have easily played in the NFL and was, in fact, drafted in the 7th round of the 1979 NFL draft by the NFL's St. Louis Cardinals. He'll be entering the College Football Hall of Fame on December 5th.
