A new survey by Gallup-Healthways says Alaska was the happiest state in America in 2014. Hawaii came in second (back UP from 8th in 2013) and South Dakota was third. (I don't know why - must be all the good paying oil field jobs)

According to LiveScience.com, Gallup interviewed 176,000  Americans last year and gave each state a score "based on participants' answers to questions about different aspects of well-being, such as their sense of purpose, social relationships, financial lives, community involvement and physical health"

Michigan didn't fare too well. We came in at number 42. Tied with Arkansas.

But we're happier than Kentucky and West Virginia. They came in at 49 and 50. For the sixth year in a row.
