1957 - 29th Academy Awards - "Around World in 80 Days", Bergman, Brynner win
1958 - CBS Labs announce new stereophonic records
1973 - 45th Academy Awards - "The Godfather" wins numerous awards including Best Picture & Best Actor for Marlon Brando for his portrayal as Don Vito Corleone.. Brando boycotted the awards ceremony in protest of the treatment of Native Americans by the film industry. He sent Native American civil rights activist Sacheen Littlefeather to read a declinatory speech on his behalf if he won. The incident caused the AMPAS to disallow future proxy acceptance of the Academy Awards.
