Today is National High-Five Day! Now one may think that they chose this specific day because it's the day after Tax Day...well, one would be wrong. According to Wikipedia, National High Five Day is celebrated on the third Thursday of April. (So, this year it's just a coincidence...) Anyway, there's actually a whole page on Wikipedia about the 'high-five' and its origin. For decades, some people thought the first high five occurred between Dusty Baker and Glenn Burke from the LA Dodgers on October 2nd in 1977, the last day of their regular season.

However, also according to Wikipedia, there are those that believe another story that was first reported in 1980. That version claims that at a University of Louisville basketball practice, Wiley Brown went to give his teammate a "plain old low five" during the 1978-79 season but his teammate, Derek Smith looked Brown in the eye and said, "No. Up high." Brown thought, "yeah, why are we staying down low? We jump so high," raised his hand and the high five was supposedly born. (I'm not making this up...look for yourself here.)

Anway, Happy High-Five Day! To celebrate, here's a "high five tribute" from YouTube from people who clearly have way too much time on their hands...get it...hands...hahaha!
